How Technology Could Be Ruining Your Relationship

Technology is a useful tool that brings convenience to our daily lives. But it can also cause problem if you spend more time with it than your partner. While you may not notice, there are many ways your smart phone and other gadgets could be ruining your relationship. Here are some of them.

  1. Online Flirting

This is the number one disaster caused by technology that can ruin any relationship. The internet and social media opens the door to chatting with and meeting new people—even with people who are no longer in your life (e.g. ex-lovers). All it takes is just a small misunderstanding with your partner and you may very well be on your way to the point of no return.

  1. Oversharing

It has become very common for people, especially for couples, to overshare on social media, and post too many intimate details of their day-to-day lives. If you’re doing this, ask yourself whether you have checked how your partner feels about this. Your beau may not be too happy that you’re telling your friends—and the entire world—your misunderstandings.

  1. Video Game Addiction

If you or your partner spends too much time playing games on the phone, it’s a warning sign that technology does your relationship no good. You don’t have to totally restrict yourself from playing games; just be sure that when you’re out on a date with your partner, you shouldn’t be using your phone excessively.

  1. Stalking Each Other

In a trustworthy and transparent relationship, you do not need to stalk your partner. However, due to your own insecurities, you become an instant detective. You go as far as checking his friends’ photos and posts, and even track his calls and text messages, to satisfy your baseless suspicions.

  1. Attitude Problem

Excessive use of phone and other technology can cause a person to become paranoid, depressed, anxious and unpleasant. Something that can be as simple as a game not going your way can cause you to act rudely to someone else. One of the worst parts is that you might not realize how your attitude is influenced by the use of technology until it’s too late and your relationship is at its critical stage.

  1. Fewer Visits

Seeing or visiting each other at work or in random places is one way to nurturing the relationship. However, because of video calls and instant messaging, you no longer see it necessary to check on your partner personally. Soon, the passion to work for the relationship will begin to dissipate and the foundation of your relationship will slowly crumble.

Technology can be advantageous as it allows easy communication and makes doing things faster. However, it can also get in the way of intimacy and can cause problems between couples. Do not allow these devices to take over your life; use it wisely to avoid fights and misunderstandings in your relationship.
